Mariners’ Victor Robles Makes Questionable Dash Trying to Steal Home Against the Yankees

Bad gamble costs Seattle a run

Robles tries to steal home but is thrown out

In the bottom of the first inning of a game against the New York Yankees on Tuesday night, Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles attempted to steal home but was thrown out. The Mariners were trailing 1-0 at the time, and with two outs and runners on first and third, Robles took off for home on a pitch to the batter, Eugenio Suárez.

Yankees catcher Kyle Higashioka made a quick throw to home plate, and Robles was tagged out by a wide margin. The Mariners were unable to score in the inning, and the Yankees went on to win the game 4-1.

Robles has been a good base stealer in the past

Robles has been a successful base stealer in the past, with 100 stolen bases in his career. However, he has also been caught stealing 40 times. In 2022, Robles had 11 stolen bases and was caught stealing five times.

Attempted steal was a questionable decision

Robles' attempt to steal home on Tuesday night was a questionable decision. With two outs and the Mariners trailing, a stolen base would not have tied the game. Additionally, Higashioka is a good catcher with a strong arm. Robles was unlikely to be successful in stealing home, and his attempt cost the Mariners a run.

Mariners manager Scott Servais was critical

Mariners manager Scott Servais was critical of Robles' decision to try to steal home.

"That was a bad decision," Servais said. "We can't afford to make those kinds of mistakes."

Robles apologized for his mistake after the game.

"I take full responsibility for that," Robles said. "I made a bad decision and it cost us a run."

The Mariners are hoping that Robles can learn from his mistake and avoid making similar ones in the future.
